CAMDEN DISTRICT ROLL OF HONOUR Lest We Forget Camden District Roll of Honour is dedicated to the men and women of Camden and the surrounding districts who have served, or are serving in Australia's Military Forces, especially those who have made the Ultimate Sacrifice. This Plaque is on the Soldiers Memorial in Macarthur Park. Sub-Lieutenant Rupert Brooke, a renowned English poet, died aged 27 on a French hospital ship in the Mediterranean on 23rd April 1915 while serving with The Royal Navy Mediterranean Expeditionary Force on their way to the battle at Gallipoli. THE DEADBLOW OUT, YOU BUGLES, OVER THE RICH DEAD! THERE'S NONE OF THESE SO LONELY AND POOR OF OLD. BUT, DYING, HAS MADE US RARER GIFTS THAN GOLD. THESE LAID THE WORLD AWAY; POURED OUT THE RED SWEET WINE OF YOUTH; GAVE UP THE YEARS TO BE OF WORK AND JOY, AND THAT UNHOPED SERENE. THAT MEN CALL AGE; AND THOSE WHO WOULD HAVE BEEN THEIR SONS, THEY GAVE THEIR IMMORTALITY. RUPERT BROOKE |
